My husband pushed me into the pool on our wedding day… But what I screamed as I got out of the water took everyone’s breath away
The afternoon had been designed to look perfect.
The Salvatierra mansion glistened in the sun, surrounded by impeccable gardens, white flowers and a blue pool that reflected the sky as if it were a mirror. Guests walked between elegant tables, champagne glasses and floral arrangements while soft music filled the atmosphere.
At the center of it all was Valeria.
She wore a white, strapless wedding dress with delicate lace that fell over her body like a promise. Her dark, wavy, carefully combed hair rested on her shoulders, and in her hands she held a bouquet of white roses. She smiled, yes, but not with the tranquility of a completely happy woman. He smiled with the tension of someone who has waited too long to believe that, finally, everything will be fine.
At her side was Esteban, the man she was going to marry. Tall, attractive, impeccable in his black tuxedo, with a confident smile that always seemed to convince everyone. The guests admired him. They said he was elegant, successful, charming. They said that Valeria was lucky.
No one knew that, for weeks, she had been feeling something strange.
Small coldnesses. Hard looks when no one else was watching. Short answers. A tone that changed too quickly. But every time Valeria tried to talk about it, Esteban smiled, hugged her in front of the others and made her feel that everything was only in her head.
« Everyone thinks we’re perfect today, » he said quietly, as they posed by the pool before the toast.
Valeria laughed nervously.
« And aren’t we? »
Esteban looked at her in a way that froze his chest.
His smile was still there, but something in his eyes had changed.
There was no tenderness anymore. There was coldness.
Valeria squeezed the bouquet a little tighter.
« Why are you looking at me like that? » He asked quietly.
Esteban took a step closer, as if he were going to kiss her or whisper something romantic in her ear. From afar, the scene looked like that of a couple in love. Some guests even smiled at seeing them so close.
But what Esteban said left her breathless.
« Because after today, no one will believe in you again.
Valeria felt a sharp blow in her heart.
« What does that mean? »
There was no response.
Just a sudden movement.
Before she could react, Stephen put a firm hand on her arm and pushed her hard.
Valeria fell backwards.
His bouquet flew off. The white dress rose just a second. Then the water enveloped her with an icy and brutal blow.
The scream of the guests was mixed with the roar of the dip.
For an instant, underwater, everything was confusing. The fabric of the dress was heavy. The makeup dissolved. The perfect hairstyle disappeared. The elegant and beautiful world around her turned to blue silence and despair.
When he managed to surface, he gasped loudly.
The entire pool was silent.
The guests looked at her in horror. Some women covered their mouths. A waiter had dropped a tray. A man in a gray suit stepped forward, shocked.
And Esteban…
Esteban feigned surprise.
« Valeria! » he shouted, as if he had not been the one who threw it.
She looked at him, soaked, trembling, her dress clinging to her body and her chest burning with rage and humiliation.
For a second he thought about keeping quiet. To get out of the water, smile, say it was an accident and disappear to cry alone.
But then he remembered the last few weeks.
Threats disguised as jokes.
The discussions in a low voice.
The night he found documents hidden in Esteban’s office.
The false signature.
The money transferred.
And, above all, the phrase he had said to her just seconds before pushing her.
« After today, no one will believe in you again. »
Valeria suddenly understood that this was not a cruel joke.
It was a trap.
I wanted to make her look like an unstable girlfriend. Dramatic. Ridiculous. Capable of ruining her own wedding in an emotional outburst. He wanted to destroy her word before she spoke.
But it was too late.
Valeria brushed the wet hair from her face, held on to the edge of the pool and shouted in a voice that made the whole garden vibrate:
« You pushed me! » Everyone needs to know the truth!
A murmur ran through the guests like an electric shock.
Esteban turned pale.
« Valeria, please, are you upset… »
