My classmates mocked the prom dress I made from my late father’s shirts — until the principal shared the story behind it.
Losing her father just months before prom left Nicole feeling as though the world had suddenly become too quiet. Since childhood, it had always been the two of them. Her mother had passed away when Nicole was born, and her father, Johnny, devoted every part of his life to raising her with kindness, patience, and dignity. He worked as the school janitor, a job many students looked down on, and Nicole often heard hurtful whispers in the hallways because of it. Yet Johnny never let bitterness enter their home. He reminded her that honest work carried honor, and he taught her that people who belittled others were only revealing their own weakness. Despite the struggles, Nicole admired him deeply and dreamed of making him proud one day.

He wanted to see her dressed beautifully and smiling with confidence as she stepped into adulthood. Sadly, he passed away before that day arrived. After the funeral, Nicole moved in with her aunt and struggled to find meaning in celebrations that once felt important. While classmates discussed expensive dresses and glamorous plans, she quietly searched for a way to keep her father close to her heart during the milestone they had both awaited.
