The Pastor Who Ignored Every Warning

It was a quiet Saturday morning when Pastor Amos Akini boarded a bus home after completing a seven-day deliverance crusade in a remote village. His worn Bible rested securely against his chest as he greeted a few passengers with a warm smile before settling into a window seat. Moments later, the bus pulled away from the terminal and rolled onto the open highway.

For the first two hours, the journey was peaceful. Most of the passengers chatted softly or drifted off to sleep as the countryside slipped past the windows.

Then everything changed.

Ahead, a police checkpoint came into view along a deserted stretch of road. Instead of slowing down, the young driver pressed harder on the accelerator. Music blasted through the earbuds hanging from his ears as though he were racing against someone only he could see.

An elderly man sitting near the back suddenly rose from his seat.

« Driver! » he shouted. « Slow down! There’s a checkpoint ahead! »

Another passenger leaned into the aisle and pointed toward the road.

« Can’t you see the officers? This isn’t a racetrack! »

The driver laughed without taking his foot off the gas.

« Let them stop me if they can. »

He pounded the steering wheel with one hand like a drummer keeping rhythm, grinning with reckless confidence.

The bus surged forward.

Several police officers stepped into the roadway, raising their hands.

« Stop the vehicle! » one of them yelled.

But the driver ignored every warning and sped straight past them.

« Ha! » he shouted triumphantly. « They couldn’t catch me! »

Panic spread through the bus.

One woman covered her face and began to pray.

« You want to kill us? » another passenger cried.

Someone muttered quietly, « God have mercy on this foolish driver. »

The words had barely left his mouth when a deafening explosion shattered the air.

Bang!

The front-right tire burst.

The steering wheel jerked violently from the driver’s hands.

The bus swerved left.

Then right.

Passengers screamed as luggage crashed from the overhead racks.

The driver fought desperately for control, but it was already too late.

The vehicle shot off the highway, plunged into a deep gully, slammed into several trees, and rolled over again and again before coming to a crushing stop.

For one terrible second…

Silence.

Then flames erupted from the engine.

Fire raced through the wreckage with frightening speed.

Some passengers were thrown through broken windows.

Others remained trapped inside as smoke and fire swallowed the twisted metal.

Within moments, the entire bus was engulfed in flames.

To anyone arriving at the scene, there appeared to be no survivors.

Yet the tragedy should never have happened.

It all could have been avoided.

If only Pastor Amos had listened to the warnings that had come before this journey.

If only he had recognized that not every battle was meant to be fought.

Pastor Amos Akini was no ordinary preacher.

Across Nigeria, his name inspired reverence.

From Lagos to Kano…

From Port Harcourt to Ibadan…

People spoke of him with remarkable respect.
