At My Wedding, My MIL Demanded That I Let Her Daughter Walk Down the Aisle Before Me – I Agreed, But Under One Condition

Her smile wavered.

“What condition?”

I looked at Rosalie. Then back at Corrine.

“When those doors open, before she takes one step down that aisle…”

I raised my voice just enough for every nearby guest to hear.

“I want you to tell everyone exactly why she’s walking before the bride.”

The hallway fell silent.

Corrine’s smile disappeared.

She looked at Rosalie.

“Go ahead.”

Rosalie didn’t move.

Corrine’s voice became sharper.

“Tell them.”

Rosalie’s eyes filled with tears.

She whispered something I almost didn’t hear.

I can’t.”

Corrine’s jaw tightened.

“Yes.”

She took a step closer.

“You can.”

Rosalie looked at Kevin.

Then at me.

Then slowly lowered the bouquet.

“I never wanted this.”

Corrine’s expression hardened.

“Rosalie.”

She slowly shook her head.

“I told you this was a bad idea.”

Every guest in the hallway had gone completely still.

I looked at Kevin.

“You knew she didn’t want this?”

He closed his eyes.

“Jessica…”

“No.”

I held up a hand.

“I’m done listening to everyone except the person standing there with the bouquet.”

I looked back at Rosalie.

“Tell me.”

She took a shaky breath.

“My wedding was supposed to happen five years ago.”

The room seemed to shrink.

“I was 26. I’d been with Evan for almost seven years.”

She laughed once.

“It was supposed to be the happiest day of my life.”

Nobody moved.

“The guests arrived. The flowers were delivered. My dress was hanging in the bridal suite.”

Her fingers tightened around the bouquet.

“My father walked me to the entrance.”

Her voice cracked.

“And then…”

She stopped.

Corrine quietly reached for her arm.

“That’s enough.”

Rosalie stepped away.

“No. It’s not.”
