One of the great advantages of the acronym WC is that it transcends borders. While words may change from one country to another, WC remains widely understood. It’s a bit like the international language for urgent situations.
In fact, misunderstandings are not uncommon when relying solely on words. In some countries, asking for a « bathroom » might lead you to a room with a bathtub, but no toilet. Enough to create a slightly awkward moment.
