My Husband Walked Into Divorce Court With Three Attorneys, an Ironclad Prenup, and the Woman He Planned to Marry—Certain He Would Take Our Entire Fortune and Full Custody of Our Twin Boys… Until the Judge Opened the Company’s Original Ownership Records, Read the First Name Listed, and Asked One Question That Drained Every Bit of Color From His Face

Judge Beckett turned another page.

“There is also a transfer agreement dated six years ago. It appears incomplete.”

“I never signed it,” I said.

Gavin spoke before his attorney could stop him.

“Because she refused.”

I looked at him for the first time.

“You gave it to me three days after my aunt’s funeral and said it was routine paperwork.”

Judge Beckett examined the page.

“This agreement would have transferred her ownership interest to you for ten dollars.”

Sloane inhaled sharply.

Gavin’s eyes dropped to the table.

The Real Custody Question

I turned back to the judge.

“Your Honor, I did not bring these records to humiliate my husband. I brought them because he asked this court to believe I had no income, no professional ability, and no role in building the life our children know.”

Judge Beckett nodded.

“Where have you and the boys lived since the separation?”

“In a rented home near their school.”

“Who pays the rent?”

“I do.”

“With what income?”

I handed the clerk another folder.

“For the past eighteen months, I have worked as an independent consultant for small transportation companies. I help them with insurance compliance, contract proposals, licensing, and financial systems.”
