“Pack your things and go, you have an hour!” my husband said at 2 a.m. He didn’t know that in the morning I would have to pick up not only my things but everything else as well.
The Night That Changed Everything
The autumn drizzle settled on my face, but I ignored it. I didn’t go to my mother’s. I didn’t want to wake her in the middle of the night.
I drove to a small office the company maintained as a backup location.
The city was sleeping.
And I was starting to build my life again.
The office was quiet. I turned on my computer and logged into the banking system.
First, I blocked all the work cards that Igor used.
I later secured the company’s funds in reserve accounts.
Then I prepared documents dismissing him from the position of director.
Everything was done in accordance with the law and in accordance with documents that he had refused to even read for years.
At four in the morning I called the head of security.
– Igor is no longer allowed on the company premises. I sent the details via email.
“I understand, Mrs. Olga,” he replied without further questions.
As dawn began to break outside, I sank into the armchair.
I was exhausted but calm.
I knew that in a few hours Igor would wake up.
And he will discover that the world looks completely different than it did at night.
The morning was brutal for him.
At eight in the morning I received the first notification from the bank.
Your payment attempt was rejected.
A moment later the phone rang.
The contact name « Dear » was still on the screen. I smiled bitterly and changed the name to « Ex. »
I didn’t pick up.
After an hour, the phone literally exploded with messages.
At first they were full of anger.
Then more and more panicked.
I finally picked up.
“Are you crazy?!” he yelled. “I’m at a gas station and I can’t pay!”
– Good morning, Igor.
– Did you block the accounts?!
« I grabbed my things. Just like you told me. »
– What things?! That’s my business!
– Really? Check your documents.
There was silence.
« Olu… » his tone suddenly softened. « I overdid it. I was drunk. Lena had long since left. It meant nothing. »
– And yet, a few hours earlier it meant a lot.
– We are family.
– The family ended when you gave me an hour to move out.
