Tender Southern Pot Roast with Slow-Stewed Green Cabbage
Ingredients
- 1 large head green cabbage, chopped
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 1 cup chicken broth
- Chef Bae All-Purpose Seasoning, to taste
Instructions
- Melt the butter: In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. The butter should melt gently and begin to bubble, creating a flavorful base for the cabbage.
- Cook the onions: Add the sliced onions to the pot and cook for 5–7 minutes, or until the onions become soft and translucent. This step helps release the natural sweetness of the onions.
- Add the cabbage: Stir in the chopped cabbage, tossing it with the onions and butter until the cabbage starts to soften. This will help release the cabbage’s moisture and flavor as it stews.
- Simmer with broth: Pour in the chicken broth and stir to combine. Cover the pot and let the cabbage simmer for 45–60 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it is tender and silky. The cabbage should absorb the flavor of the broth and butter, becoming soft and flavorful.
- Season and serve: Season the cabbage with Chef Bae All-Purpose Seasoning to taste, adding more if needed. Serve the cabbage hot, either on its own or as a side dish to complement the pot roast.
